The building was erected by Robert Robertson of Garvagh as part of a condition of lease between himself and Lady Garvagh in 1860. The lease was for 99 years and in the first year of it Robertson agreed to erect at his own expense a building of stone and lime slated, and further that he would preserve uphold and maintain them during the time of the lease. This agreement remained in force until June 1913 when Robertson purchased the property, the sale being concluded on the 5th July 1913. The property consisted of two shops and two dwelling houses.
The Robertson family was associated with the building for around 100 years. In the 20th Century two brothers, George and Alfred Clyde owned the premises. George carried on in the Robertson tradition, Hardware and General Merchant, Alfred was a draper and undertaker. Later both shops came into the ownership of Alfred's son Hans who then sold it on to Garvagh Development Trust, G.D.T. then went on to renovate the building to become a place, that will allow ongoing activities, such as, the Music Schools, the Community Education Programme, and the Diamond Club to consolidate and expand, as well as offering a venue for other projects and groups to meet and develop.
The building has been split into 10 conference/meeting rooms. These can be utilised in a number of different layouts to suit individual needs. Sizes of the rooms range in size, so whether you need a large room for a group meeting or a smaller room for a more individual meeting or interview these needs can be met.
